Story

The story

On the day Claire finalizes her divorce from Damian Thorne, she is three months pregnant. After twelve years of catering to his every whim, from sixteen to twenty-eight, she is simply tired. She signs away everything, leaving with nothing, while Damian storms out to the arms of Sienna, his long-lost first love.

When Sienna sends taunting photographs and claims Claire stole a love that was never hers, Claire answers with quiet steel: as long as the divorce is not final, Sienna is only the other woman. Claire's calm hides a long history. Orphaned young and raised by her grandfather in Havenwood, she was sixteen when Damian first appeared and saved her from grasping relatives.

Now, carrying his child in secret, Claire must decide how far she will go to reclaim what she once set out to win, and whether the velvet trap she built was ever meant to hold him or herself.

Opening excerpt

Divorce papers in one hand, his long-lost love in the other, he sneered at me. "Claire, you really think I can't live without you? Let me tell you something—you don't control me."

I saw the woman on his arm, Sienna, shift uncomfortably. I offered him a soft, almost pitying smile. "Damian, everything has always come so easily to you. That's why you never learned to cherish anything. It's rare to get a second chance with your first love. I hope you find the happiness you're looking for."
