Story

The story

Quinn's father delivers her, blackout drunk, to the bed of his wealthy friend Julian Thorne to secure a contract. Julian wakes in disgust, accuses her of drugging him, and throws her out naked. Fearing the Thorne family, her father commits her to a psychiatric institution, where she is beaten and nearly lobotomised. She jumps from the roof and, dying, accepts a devil's bargain: her too-pure heart in exchange for life. She wakes hollow, and the staff who tormented her now beg for mercy.

Returning home, she finds Julian about to marry her stepsister Bella, the girl who once sewed her lips shut while her father tore the thread from her flesh. Her father slaps her; Julian threatens to send her back. But without a heart, Quinn feels no pain, only the cold resolve to make them pay for twenty years of cruelty.

When Julian, drunk, comes to her in the dark, she reaches for a heavy glass vase.

Opening excerpt

To secure a multi-million dollar contract and buy a villa for his illegitimate daughter, my father got me blackout drunk and delivered me to the bed of his wealthy best friend.

We had a wild night.

But when Julian woke up, he looked at me with pure disgust.

"I'm your family friend. I'm your elder. To satisfy your own sick desires, you drugged me? You have no shame."

He threw me out of the house, naked, claiming he never wanted to see me again.
