I Was Just My Sister's Marriage Test Subject

For three years, a young woman believed she was building a life with Gavin, the man she loved. Then she comes home ready to choose a wedding date, and her mother strikes her across the face, declaring that Gavin was always meant for her sister, Haley — that the daughter was only ever a test run, lent to him so he could be broken in and judged before being returned to her sister.

Every kindness the mother once showed the relationship now reads as inspection: the dinners, the questions, the scrutiny. When the daughter refuses to hand Gavin over, she is struck again and ordered to end it. Walking away, she sees the pattern of her whole life — the schools, the career she was pushed into, the warnings her sister later repeated — all of it a map drawn from her own suffering so Haley could walk a smoother road.

Now Gavin himself is being packaged for Haley, and this time the daughter will not yield.
