He Chose Her Rival, So She Married a Billionaire

In the mountains, a girl pledges her life to the man she gives a silver comb she carved herself. Doris Dotson carved hers over ninety-nine days, but when she offered it to Louis Carpenter, he turned away and let a college girl from the Capital City, Amy Fox, slide a cheap wooden comb into his hair. He called Doris a disfigured freak no one else would want. So she picked up the broken comb and offered it to Stewart Gilbert, the investor from the Capital City, who took it and promised to come for her in the morning.

Louis believes her defiance is a jealous act, certain Gilbert is only amusing himself and will not return. He takes the silver hairpin her dying mother left her and gives it to Amy, shoves Doris to the floor, and tells her to apologize. Doris says she no longer wants him, and Louis seizes the embroidery archive her mother passed down, warning her that without him she has nothing.
