Story

The story

Piper Sterling wakes on a rooftop with Mark's hand on her shoulder, urging her to jump. He has taken her family's company, caused her parents' deaths, and now wants her life. She drags him over the edge with her. Then she jolts awake at a desk, back in her senior-year English class, with her deskmate Jessica whispering that the professor wants an answer. Piper realizes she has been reborn, and so has Mark.

This time Piper refuses to be fooled. She turns down Jessica's freeloading and her talk of rich kids not needing to try. When Ethan Graystone, a Finance major she has known for twenty years, invites her to dinner at The Willow Creek Inn, she remembers he died in a car crash there on this very day. She insists he come to her penthouse instead.

As Ethan teases her about cooking, Piper wonders whether saving him could change everything that is coming.

"Thud—"

I hit the ground hard after falling from the rooftop. Falling right alongside me was the husband who tricked me, ruined me, and wanted me dead.

I thought dying together was the end for us.

I never expected that when I opened my eyes again, I'd been reborn. And so had he!
