Story
The story
Chloe is twenty-eight and has spent six years grinding in San Francisco, chasing a future she promised herself. Then a routine physical delivers a verdict: breast cysts, severe fatty liver disease, sinus arrhythmia. The doctor warns that her body is breaking down faster than her career is rising.
That same night, her director Mr. Davies demands a mandatory late meeting for Project Orion, the launch that could finally earn her a promotion over her rival Ethan. Instead of logging on, Chloe types three words into the channel: she will not be there. Her best friend Maya calls it insane; Ethan only warns that Davies is furious.
Summoned to Davies' office, Chloe hides the truth behind a family emergency, loses her quarterly bonus, and endures Ethan's quiet amusement. Then her father calls from Ohio, pressing her about marriage and a stable life. Caught between a body that is failing and a city that devours its dreamers, Chloe must decide what her sacrifice is really worth.
