The Cost of His Infidelity

Military training has barely begun when Vicky's boyfriend, Marcus Sterling, is drawn to the beautiful drill sergeant, Captain Jessica Monroe. While Vicky is punished with three hundred push-ups for being two minutes late, Marcus pins Captain Monroe down before a cheering crowd and shields her eyes, whispering that Vicky is fine. That night, alone in her rented apartment, Vicky finds a torn condom wrapper under her pillow and quietly calls her father to say she wants to study abroad.

Marcus shrugs off the scar on her stomach, earned when she was stabbed three times saving him in high school, and tells her she is too young for him. He spends his days in Captain Monroe's office, is named her student assistant, and kneels to confess to her at a Mexican restaurant while his friends watch. When Vicky finally stops backing down, he warns her that he can replace her anytime.

As Captain Monroe's cruelty and Marcus's betrayals mount, Vicky keeps her plans to herself and lets him believe she is still the girl who always apologizes.
