Story
The story
An accident leaves Leo blind, and for five years his girlfriend Amelia never leaves his side, swearing she will marry no one but him. He believes her devotion is real, until a vacation ends with him falling into the ocean and waking in a hospital room able to see again.
From his bed he watches Amelia embrace David, the caregiver he hired, and hears them plan his death so his money will be theirs. Amelia is pregnant with David's child, and they intend to try again. Leo keeps his recovered sight secret, playing the helpless blind man while David tests him with scalding water and a fruit knife.
Now back home, Leo lies awake to the sound of laughter from the caregiver's room next door, waiting for his chance to make them pay.
Opening excerpt
For five years, my girlfriend, Amelia, never left my side. She would hold my hand, her voice thick with emotion, and swear, "It doesn't matter if you never see again. I will never marry anyone but you."
For five long years, she was my rock, my eyes, my everything. I truly believed she wanted to spend her life with me.
Until we went on vacation, and I "accidentally" fell into the ocean.
I woke up in a hospital room, and the first thing I realized was… I could see. The world was a blur of shapes and colors, but it was there.
