Story

The story

An orphan raised by his mentor Melissa Rogers, Simon has earned his place in a top research lab, and his patents now power the company run by Tania Jones, the woman his mentor has arranged for him to marry. At the engagement party, Tania's assistant Elias Yates blocks his way, sneering that a man with no background is unworthy of Ms. Jones.

When Simon calls Tania, she refuses to fetch him and mocks him for wasting her time. Elias twists the story, and Tania sides with her assistant, demanding a public apology and that Simon tell her mother Natalia he ended the engagement himself. Simon agrees, ready to walk away from Jones Group's fortune.

But Elias wants more than an apology, and Simon, calm as ever in the lab, will not be pushed around.

Opening excerpt

She told me she had arranged a marriage for me, with the daughter of a close friend of hers, Tania Jones.

She was a rising talent in the capital's business scene, and a number of my patents were licensed to her company, forming the core technology behind their latest products.

After working late in the lab, I changed into a carefully chosen suit and went to the engagement ceremony.

However, I was stopped at the entrance by Elias Yates, Tania's personal assistant.
