Midnight Terrors: Mom's Sleep-Talking Murder Plot

Mia lives at home with her parents, sharing a bed with her mother while her father works night shifts. One night, she overhears her sleeping mother whisper a plan to kill her. The next day, her mother's corn chowder tastes bitter and metallic, with gray particles floating on the surface, and her mother urges her to eat it with unusual urgency. When Mia refuses, her mother discards the soup without a second thought — something she would never normally do.

Soon after, Mia finds her pet flying squirrel, Spotty, dead on the ceiling lamp wire, its body split open. Her mother dismisses the death coldly, and Mia begins to suspect she is being targeted. That night, someone unlocks her bedroom door and approaches her bed with a knife. It is her father, who claims he and her mother had a bet about whether she was asleep.

Haunted by the whispered words she overheard, Mia can no longer tell whether her parents truly mean her harm.
