Story
The story
Logan's girlfriend Chloe suddenly announces that their wedding must be postponed, because her brother Austin's eighteenth birthday party needs the same ballroom on the same day. She has already cancelled their reservation and transferred it to Austin. Logan, worn down by years of always coming second, only smiles and tells her the wedding does not matter.
Chloe takes his calm as agreement. She plans to spend six thousand dollars on a gaming setup for Austin, while their own wedding was kept under five thousand and their rings were the cheapest plain bands. Logan quietly texts his father that he is calling off the wedding.
When Austin arrives with a drink Logan never liked, Chloe insists this is the last time she will put her brother first. Logan has heard that promise too many times before.
Opening excerpt
Out of nowhere, my girlfriend announced that our wedding was being postponed.
"Austin’s eighteenth birthday bash is on that exact same day, and he really wants that ballroom. I already canceled our reservation and transferred it to his name."
Her brother. Again.
In the past, I would have argued and lost my temper. But now, all I felt was bone-deep exhaustion.
After she finished speaking, she glanced at me guiltily, but I just smiled faintly.
