Story

The story

A man returns home for New Year's Eve to meet a blind date his mother arranged, driving his domestic-brand car to the hotel where Aria Johnson and her friends, dressed in designer clothes, are already waiting. They mock his plain appearance and cheap car, and Aria tells him to leave before he has even sat down.

When he asks for the red envelope his mother gave her, they refuse, revealing the 10,000 dollars has already been handed to Tiger Brother, the biggest gangster in Brooklyn. Aria calls him her idol and warns that no one crosses him.

Unfazed, he takes the phone and orders Tiger Brother to return the money within twenty minutes, then sits down to peel an orange, hoping the man actually shows up.

Opening excerpt

My mom had arranged it, saying the girl came from a good family and was good-looking.

I drove over in my domestic-brand car.

When I arrived at the hotel, my date and her group of girlfriends were already there, dolled up in designer clothes from head to toe.

Compared to them, I looked pretty plain.
