Reborn to the Day My Mom Begged Me for Help—This Time, I Choose to Walk Away

When she was seven, Lila wandered into the basement and found a woman in a red dress chained like an animal. The woman was her mother, Anna, kept for ten years by her father, Luke, who fed her rotting meat, tore her flesh and drank her blood. Lila secretly helped her, and the summer she graduated high school she tried to free her. At the front door Luke appeared, and Anna turned on her, screaming that Lila was jealous and wanted him for herself. Lila became the prisoner in the basement, tortured for months while Anna watched with a smug smile, until she threw herself against the concrete wall.

She wakes in her room on the day Anna first begged her to save her. Luke kicks a plate of maggot-infested meat toward Anna, who pleads with her eyes and waits for Lila to break. This time Lila looks away, stroking her dog Scout, and Luke forces the meat into Anna's mouth. Anna's tearful smile shows she likes it. They deserve each other.
