Chapter 4The Billionaire Heir's Vow

When we entered the main hall, Mrs. Sterling pulled me along, introducing me to the elders.

"This is my future daughter-in-law. She has a wonderful personality and is absolutely gorgeous."

Everyone showered me with praise.

Nearby, Chloe stood next to Vincent, glaring at me with dark, brooding eyes.

She walked over with a champagne glass and looked at Mrs. Sterling.

"Mrs. Sterling, I heard Arthur just returned from abroad. Have he and my sister met yet?"

"Does he actually approve of this 'future wife'?"

During the adoption, Chloe had already left a terrible impression on Mrs. Sterling.

Hearing her speak now, Mrs. Sterling's eyes flashed with displeasure.

"Mind your own business!"

"Our family matters are none of your concern. Who do you think you are?"

Vincent's face went pale.

"I'm so sorry, Mrs. Sterling. My sister doesn't know her place."

As he said that, no one noticed the brief flash of malice in his eyes.

But I had seen that look countless times in my past life.

Every time, it signaled the start of a nightmare.

Terrified, I took a step back and accidentally bumped into a warm chest.

I turned around and saw Arthur.

"Careful."

His eyes were filled with amusement, and his voice was as gentle as water.

Chloe looked like she was about to explode. She was definitely wondering why Arthur was treating me so well.

"Mr. Sterling, do you really like my sister?"

"Do you know she's an orphan? And that she was almost sexually assaulted?!"

Chloe's words plunged the entire hall into dead silence.

Back at the foster home, an older man had snuck into my room and ripped my clothes.

He tried to assault me, but I fought him off by smashing a vase over his head.

Afterward, Chloe spread rumors that I had been violated.

Later, she whispered to me, "Sister, guess who paid that man to do it?"

That was when I realized she had set me up.

Thinking of this, my fists clenched tightly.

I was about to speak, but Arthur beat me to it.

"Is that so?"

He looked at Chloe.

Chloe looked incredibly smug.

"Yes! Lily was used by an old man—"

Before she could finish, Arthur delivered a vicious kick, sending her flying backward.

Instantly, all eyes in the room snapped toward them.

Vincent looked humiliated.

"Mr. Sterling, please calm down. It's my fault for not disciplining my sister properly."

"If I ever hear her slandering my fiancée again, I'll make sure she can't survive in New York."

"Actually, no. Your entire Mercer family will be banished from this city."

"You really need to teach this sister of yours a lesson."

Arthur's voice was frighteningly cold.

Vincent quickly bowed. "You are absolutely right, Mr. Sterling. I'll teach her a lesson right now."

Smack! Smack! Smack! Vincent marched over and slapped Chloe across the face, left and right.

"Ah! Stop hitting me! It hurts..."

Chloe's screams echoed through the grand hall.

Mrs. Sterling also spoke up.

"I have officially acknowledged her as my daughter-in-law. From now on, remember her name is Lily Sterling. If I hear anyone bullying her, I will pay them back tenfold!"

"Feel better?"

Arthur whispered, pulling me close.

"That was incredibly satisfying!"

I felt like I could finally breathe freely.
