Since I was also reborn, I already knew how this would play out and had prepared a backup plan.
Chloe thought I would share her past-life fate.
But I was about to disappoint her.
Before Arthur could enter the banquet hall, I cornered him in a private lounge.
It was our first time meeting. He was a full head taller than me, his handsome face utterly indifferent.
Tsk, he really is unapproachable. I handed him a business proposal.
"I know you have a new project and aren't sure how to operate it. This is my plan. I guarantee it will turn a massive profit."
Growing up in the foster system, I only had a high school diploma, but I had a brilliant mind for business.
In my past life, Vincent only became a business magnate because I was the mastermind behind his success.
"How do you know about my new project?"
Arthur took the folder, his long fingers flipping through a few pages.
In my past life, this project belonged to Vincent.
Back then, when I first moved into his house, he treated me well.
So I used my own proposal to win this contract for him.
But without me in this life, I discovered the project had landed in Arthur's lap.
"I did my research," I smiled.
"Mr. Sterling, I can draft project proposals for you from now on."
"But on one condition: we play nice in front of your family, but privately, we mind our own business."
Arthur was a businessman; he valued profit above all.
If I could bring him value, he would surely be tempted.
Just as I thought he would agree, he raised an eyebrow at me.
"I get it. You want to trade your cooperation for a peaceful life here. Right?"
"But didn't my mother tell you she didn't adopt a daughter, she adopted a bride?"
"I know. So what's your point?"
I looked at him in confusion.
He smirked and closed the folder.
"Your proposal is excellent. But once you marry me, your proposals will belong to me anyway."
With that, he walked out.
I stood there, still processing his words.
What did he mean?
Did he actually like me?
No!
He definitely just wanted to trap me into writing business plans for him forever. That had to be it.
