Story

The story

In a twisted game of life or death, kidnappers force Mr. and Mrs. Sterling to choose which daughter dies. They choose Maya, and Lily Sterling is executed. Five years later, Lily wakes in the body of Nora, a poor high school senior with a bedridden grandmother and a disabled mother, Sarah, whose cramped home holds the warmth Lily always craved.

At a chapel, Lily's biological mother grabs her arm, begging for news of her dead daughter, and Lily calmly denies knowing her. Then Maya Sterling transfers into her classroom—cold, hostile, wearing a hearing aid from that night, whispered about as cursed. When a boy mocks Maya for being the favorite, Maya smashes a thermos into his forehead, and Lily quietly helps her escape.

Lily must now live unseen beside the sister she died for, in the family that chose Maya over her.

Opening excerpt

When I opened my eyes again, I was in the body of a stranger.

Her name was Nora. She had a grandmother who was bedridden and a mother with a permanent limp. They were dirt poor, living paycheck to paycheck, yet their home held the kind of warmth I had craved my entire life.
