Story

The story

On her birthday, Chelsea's fiancé Alex Thompson spends his supermarket points on a pair of dishwashing gloves for her, yet pays five million dollars at auction for a gem for his first love, Betty Bates. When Chelsea confronts him, he calls her a gold digger and says the gloves were a final test she failed. She breaks up with him, and he proposes to Betty.

Five years later, Chelsea is cleaning a beach on a private vacation island for her son's social studies project when Alex and Betty arrive for a charity gala. In her ragged uniform, she is mistaken for a cleaner and mocked. Alex offers her money, Betty accuses her of being a mistress over a pearl necklace, and Betty dumps out the trash Chelsea collected, ruining her son's project.

Chelsea insists she is married and wants nothing from Alex, but he refuses to believe her.
