Story
The story
When Brooke’s mind fractures after a miscarriage, her memories freeze in the honeymoon phase of a toxic relationship. Convinced that Nina’s boyfriend of five years, Luke, is her ex, she collapses on Nina’s doormat again and again. To keep her from spiraling, Nina begs Luke to play along, just for three months. He agrees, and Nina becomes their chaperone, driving them to rooftop restaurants and botanical gardens where Brooke supposedly once dated.
But Brooke’s memory never returns. Then a friend spots Brooke at a baby boutique with a man, and Nina races across town to find Luke beside her. Brooke whispers about a pregnancy, and Luke promises a wedding. Standing behind the cribs, Nina realizes the amnesia, the trauma, the breakdowns were all an act.
As a charge of $998.00 hits their joint card, Nina slips off her engagement ring and texts her mother about a setup with a family friend.
Opening excerpt
Brooke’s world had shattered after her ex dumped her mid-pregnancy. The miscarriage that followed caused massive hemorrhaging, and by the time the ER doctors dragged her back from the edge of death, her mind had fractured. Her memories were frozen in time—trapped in the sunlit honeymoon phase of that toxic relationship.
The real nightmare began when she convinced herself that my boyfriend of five years, Luke, was that very ex.
