Story
The story
Born with two hearts, Herbert exists only to keep his ailing brother Hans alive. He marries Linda Cardel, hoping she will be different from his parents, but when Hans falls ill, Linda demands Herbert donate a heart. Herbert insists he has only one heart left, and that his other heart is with her. Linda dismisses his pleas as lies and bribes, and the hospital staff mistake Hans for her husband.
Ignoring Herbert's struggle, Linda signs the papers and has him anesthetized. She removes a heart from his chest and carries it to Hans. Alone on the table, Herbert dies, and the doctors leave his body to the morgue. Linda stays at Hans's side for days, certain Herbert is merely sulking.
When she finally looks for him, his bed is empty and his phone unreachable. Hans clings to her, and Linda decides Herbert can calm down on his own.
