Story
The story
At a party celebrating his college acceptance, Henry Wilson is handed a half-scratched lottery ticket by his cousin Jessica Boone, who claims it is worth a million dollars. When the ticket wins twenty dollars, Jessica offers two hundred thousand dollars to buy it back. Sensing a trap, Henry refuses, and Jessica flies into a rage, shoving him off a high-rise while his parents and relatives cheer her on.
Henry wakes half an hour in the past, back at the party. This time he declines the gift, but his mother Emma and the relatives pressure him until he scratches the ticket and wins again. Jessica repeats her offer, and when Henry swaps in an old losing ticket, his brother Hector exposes the trick. His father slaps him, and his mother threatens to strip-search him for the real ticket.
Trapped among relatives who side with Jessica, Henry must survive the night he already knows ends in his death.
Opening excerpt
But when she finds out that I won 20 dollars from the lottery ticket, she offers 200 thousand dollars to buy the ticket off me.
Finding it strange, I refuse her offer.
Jessica goes berserk. She starts cursing me out, telling me to go to hell. She even pushes me off the high-rise building right in front of all the guests at the party.
The dozens of people in attendance, including my parents, staunchly support her actions and even start remarking that I deserve to die.
My eyes open once more—I've gone half an hour back in time.
