Story

The story

For eight years, Luna has been the secret lover of Ethan Rivers, her best friend's brother. By day he treats her as just another secretary; by night he holds her close and whispers promises of love. Then she discovers he has bought a lifetime commitment ring, and follows him to the venue — only to watch him kneel before a woman who looks eerily like her. His friends tease him about breaking up with Luna now that his first love is back, and Ethan answers that she can't leave him anyway.

Luna texts her family that she agrees to the arranged marriage, and books a plane ticket. But Ethan's fiancée Vivian moves into the house, and every piece of clothing and jewelry he ever gave Luna turns out to suit Vivian perfectly. When Vivian breaks the music box that was Ethan's childhood promise, he grinds it underfoot and calls it garbage.

Luna prints her resignation letter and unpins him from her messages. Then Vivian adds her, and a message arrives meant for Ethan.

Opening excerpt

I'd been in a secret relationship with my best friend's brother for eight years.

During the day, Ethan Rivers treated me like just another secretary at the office.

At night, he cherished me completely, holding me close and whispering sweet promises of love.

One day, I accidentally discovered he'd bought a lifetime commitment ring - the kind you can only customize once in your life.

Heart full of joy, I followed him to the prepared venue.
