Your Love for Her Was the Death of Me

Eva Rowe has decided to erase herself from the world. She arranges for every record of her identity to be wiped clean within fourteen days, books a one-way ticket to Felnor, and turns off her phone. She is no longer anyone's Eva.

To the public, she is the beloved wife of Leo Sereno, the enigmatic kingpin of Veritas' criminal underworld, whose Sereno Group unveils the Amoura Eva necklace and whose devotion—a donated kidney, a private journal, a forest of cherry trees—is celebrated across Avalon. But three months ago Eva learned that Leo took a lover, Cleo Guzman, six months earlier. By day he plays the devoted husband; by night he disappears into Cleo's arms.

On their anniversary, Leo returns with the necklace and marks on his skin that Eva did not leave. She hands him a gift box and tells him to open it in two weeks, then quietly signs a divorce agreement and places it, with the keys to the RV he gave her, inside that same vehicle.
