My Ex Played Games, Not Knowing I Was the Don’s Wife

On the feast of San Valentino, Adriana Mancini's sworn man, Enzo Barone, returns to Valente soil after three years abroad. Her closest friend, Gia, steers the three of them into a hotel suite for a game called who cracks first. Enzo announces he and Gia will spend the night together, and Gia admits she once whispered the word that ruined Adriana's appointment to the crew. Adriana only laughs and lights up her phone: she is already bound in marriage to another man.

Enzo refuses to believe it, calling the pact a jealous trick and offering to cut the unknown husband loose. Gia demands proof, noting no one in their circle ever heard of the union. Adriana stays silent, unwilling to drag her husband into their reach. When Gia crumples to the floor in tears, Enzo shoves Adriana into a table and carries Gia away, leaving her bleeding and alone.

A call from her husband, Lorenzo, reveals a man whose dealings dwarf Enzo's. At midnight the room charge arrives, and Adriana forwards it to Enzo without a second thought.
