The Wedding Day Swap

On the day they are meant to collect their marriage licence, Xavier demands that Serena register his aunt Felicity's unborn child under her name to protect the aunt's reputation. When she refuses, he abandons her at the courthouse, the ninth time their registration has failed because of Felicity. So Serena messages Liam, who races over to marry her instead, then leaves to sign a contract.

Xavier later collects Serena with Felicity, offering a silk scarf as a gift, and drives to his grandfather's eightieth birthday. Felicity's mockery, Xavier's cold insistence that Serena claim infertility so the child can be passed off as hers, and the bracelet he gives away all press on the fault line of their three-year relationship.

On the terrace, Xavier grips Serena's wrist and demands a final answer about the child, threatening to end things if she refuses.
