Story
The story
A restaurant worker remembers being killed by a prep cook after their boss, Jennifer Tadley, refused to honor promised shares. Now he has been reborn on the very day she first made those empty promises to the staff.
This time, he plays along. He thanks Jennifer for her doubled rewards, then buys a whiteboard out of his own pocket to publicly track every share earned. Kaden Lowe, the prep cook who killed him, quickly climbs the list, and the rest of the staff grow eager for their own rewards. Jennifer cannot easily take back her words without discouraging everyone.
As the year stretches ahead, the boss and the employee who once destroyed him both have a debt to pay.
Opening excerpt
The boss said we would start with zero shares, but we could earn 0.01% for every two hours of overtime, covering someone else’s work or saving the restaurant 1,000 bucks.
I suggested she write this down in an official document and have someone track it properly.
She just smiled and told everyone to work harder. She never actually put it in writing.
The experienced staff did not believe her, but one prep cook took it seriously. At the end of the year, he went to the boss to claim his shares.
