Story

The story

Elara's husband Anthony keeps a second family: Cathy and her three-year-old twins. When Elara hides the twins as leverage, Anthony ties their five-year-old son Leo by his ankles from the penthouse balcony and shocks him with a stun gun until she reveals where the children are. By the time Anthony returns, Leo has died of dehydration and organ failure in the sun.

Anthony does not know. He brings Leo a gift and speaks of Leo as his heir, then moves Cathy and her twins into the house, expecting Elara to coexist peacefully. When the twins shatter the porcelain figures Leo loved, Anthony slaps Elara and leads his other family upstairs, leaving her weeping over the broken pieces.

Her love gone cold, Elara asks for a divorce, and Anthony refuses to take her seriously. Then she dials a number and reports a crime.

Opening excerpt

Anthony Johnson’s prized songbird bore twins—a secret he guarded fiercely. Until I stole them away.

In retaliation, he strung up our son Leo by his ankles from the penthouse balcony, leaving him to roast in the midday sun.

When I arrived, Leo’s face was scarlet, lips split and bleeding. His weak whimpers tore at my soul.
