Lina Reed survived her husband once. When she spent fifty dollars on Black Friday, Trevor beat her so badly her spleen ruptured, chased away the paramedics, and left her to die. He then sued the hospital for negligence, collected a fortune, and remarried. Now Lina has woken up in her old life, staring at a package on the coffee table as Trevor's key turns in the lock.

Trevor is a pathologically frugal man who scavenges wilted market vegetables for her dinner while keeping fresh bread and milk for himself. He confiscated her ID and bank cards, forced her to quit the job that once paid better than his, and blames her for the miscarriage that followed.
