My Boyfriend’s ‘Temporary Dating Agreement’ With My Bestie

Sophie Jordan has spent four years in a long-distance relationship with her boyfriend, Carter Jennings, while they study at different universities. When she takes an eight-hour train ride to North Capital University to surprise him during the semester break, she finds he is not there. His resident advisor and roommates say Carter has gone to Southern University to visit his girlfriend, whom he sees every holiday without fail.

Sophie realises the girl he visits must be Ruby Wrenly, her best friend of ten years. She travels to Southern University and, from under a street light, watches Carter embrace and kiss Ruby, using the electric fan Sophie gave him as a graduation gift. When her luggage falls and they see her, Carter claims he was only passing by, while Ruby says they made a pact to break up after four years of university. As onlookers gossip, Sophie understands she has been betrayed by the two people she treated as family.
