What the Light Forgets

For seven years, Rosalind has run every part of her husband Henry Shepherd's career, the logistics behind the hands insured for millions. At a dinner party, Henry uses those hands to shell crabs for his young assistant, Tamara Lee, while Rosalind drinks herself bloody to win him investors. When she asks for antacids, he refuses without looking up. He sees her choke back blood and does not care.

That night she asks her lawyer to draft a divorce agreement. Henry signs without reading it, then blocks the door to explain that Tamara broke out in hives and nothing happened. He has forgotten that Rosalind once begged him to take her to a hospital for her own hives, and he refused. At the exhibition, Tamara kneels before the press, and Henry shields her, blaming Rosalind.

When Tamara is cut by a falling frame, Henry hurls a painting at Rosalind's feet, cutting her leg, and strips her of any say in his studio. Bleeding, she finalizes a flight to Valmont, where another artist has been speaking with her for months.
