Dying Twice To Save Her

In a remote hollow, a child named Daisy wakes to find herself back on the morning that ruined everything. Once, she betrayed her mother's escape for a slice of honeyed bread, and watched Hank, her father, beat her mother at the oak tree while Granny Ruth looked on. Her mother took her own life days later, and Hank killed Daisy in a drunken rage.

Now Daisy has a second chance. She turns her mother in again, but only to save her from a trap at the trailhead. She tends her mother's fever in the shed, gathers herbs in secret, and wears the mask of a brainwashed child, even as her mother calls her a demon born rotten.

Daisy is determined to open the gate her mother could not, even if she cannot go with her.
