Story
The story
For seven years Selene Nightshade has endured her bonded mate Kael Blackwood's infidelities, each betrayal bought off with land and gifts. When her own pup is stillborn, she catches Kael's scent in the birthing room next door, where another Omega, Vesper Ashfen, has just whelped. Kael offers her a blank territory deed; Selene tears it up and demands the newborn instead.
Invoking the Westside Hunting Grounds Accord held by her brother, she forces Kael to let her claim the pup under pack law, sealing the ledger with her own name as Dam and ordering her denkeeper Eira Hearthwell and liaison Aria Stormvale to silence the matter. But Vesper, desperate to keep her place, whispers to Selene that she urged Kael to destroy the unborn child.
Now Selene must rise from her sickbed and return to the estate, determined to claim what is hers.
Opening excerpt
The reason I had looked away all this time?
He always showered me with territory gifts afterward.
A heat-entanglement with some low-ranking Omega from a neighboring pack? A private den in the heart of our central territory.
A moonlit gathering with young unmated females? A hunting lodge along the eastern ridge, deeded to my name alone.
He bought off my rage, my questions, my grief—all with his wealth and land offerings.
Until I was eight moons heavy with his pup, and my baby died inside me. A stillborn. The healers had to force my body to release him.
