Where the Moon No Longer Shines

Every time Matthew Lawrence hurts her, Cassandra folds a paper star. When the jar holds one hundred, she promises, the Cassey who loves him will cease to exist. Matthew laughs it off, certain her devotion is unshakable, even as he leaves her alone on a cold operating table to run to Julia.

What he does not know is that Cassandra has already arranged her own death. A clean record has made her the perfect candidate to infiltrate a transnational telecom fraud ring, and she accepts the undercover mission as her escape. On their engagement day, all Matthew will receive is news of an explosion and ashes.

As the countdown runs out, Cassandra hides her wounds and walks away, while Matthew, sensing her sudden indifference, grows desperate to hold on to a woman who is already gone.
