Back After Five Years Dead

At an alumni reunion, a woman presumed dead for five years walks back into the lives of the ex-husband and former best friend who buried her memory. Adam Hayes freezes at the sight of her; Valerie, now at his side, recovers fast and introduces her own son, Leo, whose face is a mirror of Adam's. Jenna Sterling, once a carefree heiress, survived a drowning at sea and rebuilt herself abroad by selling her paintings.

Adam insists on driving her home, probing her life, while Valerie's sweetness barely hides her unease. Jenna's calm cuts deeper than any accusation: she reminds them she cannot judge strangers when the friends she grew up with and the husband she shared a bed with already failed her. At the curb, she plucks a fruit pit from Leo's mouth, and the words she leaves behind about her own child turn their faces white.

Back home, a message from Mr. Henderson, the collector who long admired her work, draws her toward the meeting that brought her back — and toward the old heartache she means to lay to rest.
