Lesson One: Stop Needing Me

When Lexi posts that she has finally stopped relying on her big sister, Sloane decides to take her at her word. For eighteen years, Sloane has covered every tuition bill, every new phone and every mess her younger sister made, while their parents insisted that being the older sister meant paying. Now Sloane freezes the supplementary card and tells Lexi to pay her own way.

The backlash is immediate. Lexi, humiliated at a hotel with her roommates, calls their mother, and their father arrives at Sloane's door. They hold a stolen spare key, and they want the house their grandmother left to Sloane, the only home she has ever truly had. When Sloane refuses to hand it over, the night turns violent, and her dog Biscuit is hurt defending her.
