The story

At twenty-four, Michelle Armstrong marries Mason Longbright, the man who once saved her from a car and lost his health in the act. Five years later, their marriage is still unconsummated: Mason claims erectile dysfunction, satisfies her only with toys, and hides a bipolar disorder whose manic episodes leave her bruised and broken. Then, on her birthday, she opens a hotel lounge door and finds Mason in bed with Amy Becker, the psychiatrist she hired to treat him.
