Story

The story

When the wedding bells ring, Elena Vale stands alone at the altar. Her groom, Adrian Moretti, the Don of the Moretti family, is in the banquet hall next door, sliding her ring onto the finger of her twin sister, Livia Vale. A video in the family chat shows the relatives cheering, her father smiling, and Livia crying against Adrian's shoulder.

Elena's mother tells her that Livia is weak and has always given way, so she should let her have this once. Adrian calls Livia's condition life-or-death and asks Elena, the sensible one, to help her through it. Then he asks for the wedding dress Elena embroidered herself, because Livia likes it.

Elena brings the dress to the other hall and watches Livia wear it before the Moretti family. Her relatives urge her to toast the couple and not make a scene over a man. As Adrian steps in front of Livia, Elena picks up a glass of red wine.

He was the Don of the Moretti family, and the man I had loved for seven years.

By Moretti tradition, today I was meant to be acknowledged as the Don’s wife. Instead, I stood alone before the altar.

At the same time, my mother sent a video to our family chat.

In it, Adrian knelt in the banquet hall next door and slid my ring onto the finger of my twin sister, Livia Vale.

Relatives cheered. My father smiled beside them. Livia cried against Adrian’s shoulder, and he comforted her as if she had always been the bride.
