Story

The story

Grace Caldwell's father lies dying in ICU, and her husband Bruce Medlin, trustee of the family's billion-dollar trust, refuses to release five million for treatment, calling medical care a non-priority expenditure. An anonymous email then reveals two million in yearly trust payments to a woman named Serena, along with a photo of Bruce's three-year-old son. As her father flatlines, Grace vows to use Bruce's own financial rules against him.

At the funeral, Bruce arrives with Serena and the boy, refuses to authorize the bill, and calls the dead a depreciating asset. He demands Grace sign away her inheritance, while Serena flaunts a ruby bought with trust dividends. After selling her jewelry to bury her father, Grace finds his office stripped and his photograph torn; Bruce, now CEO, orders her removed and access revoked.

With every law firm in the city turned against her, Grace must find a loophole in the trust's labyrinth before Bruce erases her father's legacy entirely.

Opening excerpt

"Dad needs five million for treatment," I pleaded.

"Impossible," his voice chilled. "Medical care isn't a priority expenditure."

Minutes later, an anonymous email arrived. Attached: trust ledgers showing $2 million yearly payments to a woman named Serena... and a photo of Bruce's three-year-old carbon copy.
