Story

The story

Declan Martin strikes a bargain with a mysterious system to save his dying beloved, Clara Thorne. The price: his wife, Nina Thorne, must die ninety-nine times, each death restoring Clara's life force. He strangles her in their marital home, pushes her from a mountain, has her burned alive, and drowns her in a bathtub, his apologies fading into cold efficiency as Clara's recoveries demand more.

After the ninety-eighth death, Nina wakes unmarked but with every memory sharpened. When Declan orders her to accompany Clara to West Ridge Park, she obeys, numb and curious about the final method awaiting her. She clears the gas pipes, loosens the balcony railing, and sharpens a dagger, preparing to make her last death easier.

Then she throws away her wedding ring, and for the first time in ninety-eight deaths, Declan feels a strange unease.
