After Seven Years of Humiliation, I Left and Won It All

For seven years, Joseph has lived under the Henson roof as a live-in son-in-law, tolerated but never accepted. At Henson Group he is barred from the executive meeting, mocked by staff as lower than the family dog, and greeted by Otis Henson with pure indifference. Yet the company's revenue climbed from seven million to eighty-five million on the strength of his work, and it now stands at the threshold of an IPO.

None of it changes how the Hensons see him. At dinner his seat is at the far end of the table; in the New Year portrait he barely fits inside the frame. When a proposal goes missing, Otis, Steve Henson and Valerie Whitney trade cold words about the outsider they have fed and housed, while Felicity Henson says nothing to defend him.

Standing in the dark of the foyer, listening, Joseph has finally had enough.
