A Love That Drowned in Silence

Ryan has spent five years watching his wife, Jessica Morrison, pour every paycheck into the pockets of her ex-husband, Mark Tatum, and his son, Oliver. Even after their divorce, the joint account stayed open, and Jessica kept choosing Mark's boy over her own daughter, Emma Channing — a child born premature and fragile because Jessica rushed to Oliver's hospital bedside while eight months pregnant.

Now Emma has been diagnosed with acute leukemia. At the hospital, Ryan's card is declined: the account that should hold hundreds of thousands of dollars is empty, drained once again. Jessica appears in the corridor holding Oliver, dismisses Emma's fever as an act, slaps Ryan when he confronts her, and hands him a thousand dollars before walking away with Mark and his son.

After Emma is out of danger, Ryan takes her home, shaves her head for the chemotherapy to come, and finally calls his divorce attorney to fight for full custody.
