Only The Mother Knew The Script

Delaney Stone is a commercial litigator and single mother who has just woken up inside a toxic young adult novel, The Exclusive Obsession of the Campus Psychopath. She is the villainous mother fated to be destroyed, and her daughter Maya is the tragic heroine destined to be tormented into Stockholm Syndrome by the male lead, Tristan Kael. Only Delaney can see The Feed, a scrolling torrent of readers cheering for Maya's ruin.

When she comes home to find Tristan's sneakers at her door and her daughter sobbing behind a locked bedroom door, Delaney refuses the script. She takes a bone cleaver from the kitchen, kicks the door down, and finds Tristan pinning Maya to the bed. She throws the blade not at him but at the chandelier above his head, then shields Maya as it crashes. Holding a shard of glass to his cheek, she asks if he can hear her clearly. He flees, terrified, but Delaney knows a narcissist will return for revenge.
