Story

The story

Alpha Scott loathes his fated mate, Elena, a human without claws, and gives his heart only to Joanna, his childhood sweetheart. When Joanna dies in an accident, his hatred burns for ten years. Yet an enemy pack's bomb takes his life as he saves Elena, and his last words push her away. Blamed by the pack and broken, Elena leaps from Skyfall Ridge—and wakes on the day the Moon Goddess named her Scott's mate.

At the Moon Hunt Festival, Scott roars his refusal before the pack. Elena stuns the plaza by requesting the Severing Ceremony, asking the Elder Council to let Scott and Joanna mate. The Moon Goddess has charged her to remedy Scott's three greatest regrets within a day of her rebirth, though rebirth carries a price. She asks only to see the aurora at Skyfall Ridge once.

As the Old Shaman hands her the ritual scrolls, Elena secretly plans an Alliance Blessing Ceremony instead, and hides a bus ticket away from the pack lands. Then Joanna's second-in-command, Melissa, cries for help, and Scott leaves Elena waiting at the ridge.

Opening excerpt

His heart belonged entirely to his childhood sweetheart, Joanna.

After Joanna died in an accident, he hated me for ten years.

But when an enemy pack’s bomb exploded in front of our den, he saved me.

Before he died, covered in blood and lying in my arms, he used his last ounce of strength to push away my trembling hand.

"Elena, if only the Moon Goddess had never let us meet..."

At the funeral, the former Luna—Scott's mother—grabbed my collar, sobbing uncontrollably.
