The story
At the family's New Year's Eve dinner at Fancy City Restaurant, Daphne's cousins can't stop boasting. Arlo waves a knockoff Rolex and claims his girlfriend is the billionaire CEO of Harmony Group, while Hazel shows off an imitation Hermès bag and says her boyfriend is the Beijing tycoon Ezra Taylor. Both men, Daphne knows, are listed on the same marriage certificate—hers.
When her eldest uncle Nolan pushes her toward a divorced Mr. Beckett and the relatives mock her single status, Daphne quietly messages Ezra. He replies at once, denying any girlfriend and transferring five million with a note to spend freely. She shows her Buccellati necklace, but the table only laughs.
As the elders wait for Mr. Beckett's family to seal a match, Daphne sends Ezra her location, daring him to come before his wife is sold off.
