Story

The story

Jules has long supported Maynard's Deli, even asking her father to hold off raising the rent on the storefront the Maynards lease from her family. Then Patricia Maynard storms into Jules's office, accusing her of stealing two plastic bags and demanding payment in front of her colleagues. Her team leader urges her to just pay and avoid a scene, so Jules hands over a dollar, then fifty, while Patricia smirks and leaves.

That night Jules tells her father everything. He refuses to keep buying from the deli and vows to let the storefront sit empty rather than rent to them again; the lease is up in about a month, and Jules wants no warning given. The Maynards' children, Lily and Noah, prove just as entitled, eyeing the treats Jules carries home.

Kindness, Jules decides, has only made her a target. Now the Maynards have no idea who they picked a fight with.
