When I Died, My Husband Was with His Beloved First Love

Isabel has spent ten years quietly building her husband Alex Gordon's company from a two-person venture into a real business, while most of his staff never learn he is married. When an intruder's knife finds her heart, her son Kevin, only five, calls and messages his father again and again, begging him to come home because his mother is bleeding. Alex dismisses the boy as a liar and tells him to call back when his mother is truly dead.

Now a soul unseen by the living, Isabel watches Kevin rummage through the trash for food, eat a rotten orange and save the good half for her, then drag a quilt over her cold body. When Alex finally returns, he scolds her for missing his company trip to the beach, then rushes off to Leona Swift, whose daughter Katie is asthmatic. Barefoot Kevin chases him, falls and cuts his forehead, crying for the mother who can no longer hold him.
