Story
The story
As boys, Liam and Zachary dreamed of becoming police officers together. Years later, Zachary runs New York's largest criminal organization, and Liam stands at his side as his most trusted lieutenant. What Zachary does not know is that Liam is an undercover cop, planted close to him because the two once shared an orphanage and a childhood friendship.
When both are arrested, Liam finally reveals his badge. Then Zachary escapes, and the officers transporting him are found dead, leaving Liam's own colleagues turning on him. Suspicion falls on him from every side, and the man he grew up with is still out there.
Liam remembers how Zachary once took a machete blow meant for him, and how he answered it in silence: he wants to send Zachary to prison, not to hell.
Opening excerpt
My childhood dream with Zachary was to become police officers.
But later on.
He became the head of New York's largest criminal organization.
And I became his most formidable lieutenant.
The day we were both arrested and imprisoned.
He rubbed his nose and said:
"We're even now. In our next life, let's be brothers again."
But I lowered my eyes, calmly had the guard open my door, and said to him through the iron bars:
"Sorry, but this is my badge number."
My identity—I'm an undercover cop.
