Story

The story

Five years after losing their son Leo in a car accident, Genevieve Hartley returns to a New York cemetery to arrange for his remains to be moved. At the headstone she finds her estranged husband, Rhys Harrington, the man who was away with his mistress when Leo died and never attended the funeral. Beside him is a small boy, Finn, who lays a toy sports car by the grave and calls Leo his big brother.

Rhys refuses to let her take Leo, and the old wounds reopen: his years of neglect, his affair with Seraphina Maxwell, and the rainy night Leo ran into the street waiting for the father who had promised him a car. Genevieve will not ask his permission, and Rhys will not let go.

Two parents meet over one small grave, each claiming the right to a child only one of them ever truly stayed for.
