The Countdown to Zero

Ethan, the eldest son of the Jiang family, has always been able to see a countdown hovering above people's heads. When he was small, he blurted out the death times of his grandpa and his dad, and both died on the days he named. His three older sisters, including Chloe and Bella, believe his curse killed them, and they detest him. His mom died giving birth to his younger brother Henry, whom the sisters adore as a little lucky star, while Ethan is treated like a plague and left to survive on leftovers in a cramped attic.

Now eighteen, Ethan looks into a mirror and sees a bright red countdown above his own head. He feels only relief. Before the end, he wants one last meal with his sisters, but Bella coldly refuses and warns him to stay away from Henry, who cheerfully promises a family dinner tomorrow. Ethan has no tomorrow, and as his stomach aches and the house stays locked against him, he must decide how to spend his final day.
