Story
The story
Three days after being fired, Carter walks into the conference room of the company he helped build. His ex-girlfriend Skyler, the CEO, tells him he doesn't belong there and offers him a choice: hand his client portfolio to Dax, or stay and scrub toilets. When her assistant introduces him as the new CEO, Skyler insists her earlier attempt to win him back was only a joke.
For ten years Carter loved Skyler, even watching her hand his projects to Dax and pin Dax's mistakes on him. Now, at the airport, Dax accuses him of stealing a watch, and Skyler orders his suitcase searched. Carter knows the company is about to go bankrupt and be acquired, and that the new parent company has appointed him its CEO.
At a restaurant, Skyler and Dax mock him again, but Mr. Quinn arrives to greet him as Mr. Evans. Skyler warns that no firm in town will hire him, yet her influence may not reach as far as she believes.
