Story
The story
In her first life, Celeste Sterling watched her husband Derek Thorne and his family of seven die by poison after his mismanagement bankrupted the company. She woke to find them already cremated, loan sharks at her door, and a hundred-million-dollar debt in her name alone. She sold everything, even her parents' home and company, and worked three jobs for ten years until the last dollar was paid. Then she found the Thorne family alive, living in the mansion she had sold, and Derek tossed a single dollar at her feet in mock thanks. Her heart gave out, and she woke again on the day the nightmare began.
Now Derek weeps before her, confessing his nepotism and ruin, then drinks poison as his family follows. His sisters Scarlett and Tiffany turn on Celeste, blaming her for their deaths, while her stunned parents watch. This time Celeste sees the trap: the fake suicides were timed before the divorce was final, so the debt would fall on her alone. She stands silent, feigning shock, while a cold laugh rises inside her.
Opening excerpt
In my past life, I was forced to watch my husband Derek Thorne and his entire family of seven swallow poison in a suicide pact. His company's collapse, brought on by his gross mismanagement, was the final trigger.
The shock was too much. I collapsed, losing consciousness.
When I woke again, Derek and the six others had already been cremated.
